God Does Not Make Mistakes

I am often asked how I cope with having ALS. It is an easy question for me as I have a strong faith in God. The following is a short explanation.

There are several questions I am continually asked and my response is usually met with disbelief and scepticism.

1.   You have to be angry at God and blame Him for what is happening to you!

2.   You have to ask “Why Me.”

I was floored! Not once was I angry at God or blamed Him for this. Nor did I ever think "Why me?" The question I threw back at them is "Why not me?" God did not do this! We live in a fallen world and turned our backs on God, not the other way around.

God has said in Matthew 5:44*45  "But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you in order that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

He also promises the following:

Isaiah 26:3-4  Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Philippians 4:6-7  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

There are very few people that I have come across that are handling this disease properly - God has graciously given me a ministry to these people that I would not have if I did not have ALS - I spend a lot of time on several ALS forums and am a moderator for the Canadian ALS forum. I spend my day trying to help others, who have this disease, cope with it and share the love of God with them. There is not much hope out there - lots of doom and gloom so with God's help I try to be a positive voice and offer hope to desperate hurting people! I praise God for the opportunities He has given me and the internal peace I have. Life does not have to be over because you have a terminal illness!

Because of ALS we have also moved closer to 3 of our 4 children. We are now blessed with being able to watch our grandchildren grow and also spend more time with our children that live here. But we do really miss our daughter and family who we had to leave behind.

We have so many promises from God that, if we believe them, we should not have any fear or anxiety no matter what happens to us............

HEB 13:5  Let your character be free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,"

1CO 10:13  No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you may be able to endure it.

This is an interesting verse as you think you can't handle something but when you find yourself having to deal with it God is there and this promise is fulfilled.

ROM 8:28  And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

MAT 6:34  "Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
